Terms of Service

By creating an account, clicking "I agree", or otherwise accessing or using ResearchAI ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference.

If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation (e.g., a university department), you represent that you are authorised to bind that organisation to these Terms, and references to "you" include both you and the organisation.

If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not access or use the Service.

ResearchAI is an AI-powered research assistant platform that provides tools for academic paper organisation, PDF processing, AI-assisted literature analysis, semantic search, hypothesis generation, and related research workflows.

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature of the Service at any time, with reasonable notice where practical. We target 99.5% monthly uptime for paid accounts, but do not guarantee uninterrupted access.

To use ResearchAI, you must:

• ·Be at least 16 years of age
• ·Provide accurate and complete registration information
• ·Maintain the security of your account credentials
• ·Promptly notify us of any unauthorised access at legal@researchai.app
• ·Not share your account credentials with others

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account, whether or not you authorised it. One account per person; creating multiple accounts to circumvent credit limits or feature restrictions is prohibited.

ResearchAI offers two pricing tiers:

You agree not to use the Service to:

• ✕Upload, process, or distribute content that infringes third-party intellectual property rights
• ✕Generate content intended to deceive academic institutions (plagiarism, ghostwriting for submission as your own work without attribution)
• ✕Attempt to reverse-engineer, extract, or circumvent any AI models used by the platform
• ✕Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from the Service beyond normal use
• ✕Use automated scripts, bots, or tools to artificially consume credits or bypass rate limits
• ✕Upload malicious code, exploits, or content that could harm other users or our infrastructure
• ✕Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation
• ✕Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service or another user's account
• ✕Harass, threaten, or harm any person through use of the Service

We reserve the right to determine, in our sole discretion, what constitutes a violation of these acceptable use standards.

"Your Content" means all PDFs, paper metadata, research notes, project data, and other materials you upload to or create within the Service.

You retain full ownership of Your Content. You grant ResearchAI a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, process, and transmit Your Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. This licence terminates when you delete Your Content or close your account.

You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the right to upload and process any content you submit. By uploading a PDF or document, you represent that you have the legal right to do so (e.g., you are the author, you have a licence, or the document is in the public domain).

We do not use Your Content to train AI models, sell data to third parties, or access your research except when necessary to operate and debug the Service.

The Service uses artificial intelligence to generate abstracts, summaries, literature reviews, hypotheses, and other research outputs ("AI Outputs"). You acknowledge that:

• AI Outputs may contain inaccuracies, hallucinations, or errors even when presented confidently
• AI Outputs do not constitute professional legal, medical, financial, or other specialised advice
• You are responsible for independently verifying any factual claims in AI Outputs
• Passing off unedited AI Outputs as original academic work without attribution may violate your institution's academic integrity policies — we are not responsible for such consequences
• AI Output quality depends on the quality and scope of papers in your project library

Subject to these limitations, you own AI Outputs generated using Your Content, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

The ResearchAI platform, including its design, software, branding, and all associated intellectual property, is owned by ResearchAI and protected by copyright, trademark, and other applicable laws.

You are granted a limited, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to access and use the Service for your personal or organisational research purposes during the period your account is active. This licence does not grant you any rights to:

• —Copy, modify, or create derivative works of the platform or its code
• —Resell, sublicense, or commercialise access to the Service
• —Remove or alter any proprietary notices or labels

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, ResearchAI disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and accuracy of AI-generated content.

We do not warrant that (a) the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free; (b) any errors or defects will be corrected; (c) AI Outputs will be accurate, complete, or reliable; or (d) the Service is free from harmful components.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, ResearchAI and its officers, employees, and licensors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, loss of research, loss of profit, or loss of opportunity, arising out of or related to your use of the Service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total cumulative liability to you for any claims arising under or related to these Terms shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid to ResearchAI in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) $100.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages; in such cases, these limitations apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless ResearchAI and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, awards, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) your use of the Service; (b) Your Content; (c) your violation of these Terms; or (d) your violation of any third-party rights.

By you: You may close your account at any time from your account settings. Upon closure, we initiate a 30-day soft-delete grace period (as described in our Privacy Policy), after which your data is permanently deleted.

By us: We may suspend or terminate your account immediately, without prior notice, if we determine in our reasonable judgement that you have materially violated these Terms. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you by email. Upon termination for cause, unused PAYG credits and remaining Pro subscription time are forfeited.

Sections covering Your Content, AI-Generated Content, Disclaimers, Limitation of Liability, Indemnification, and Governing Law survive termination of these Terms.

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, unless you are a consumer in a jurisdiction with mandatory local consumer protection laws that provide otherwise.

For EU consumers, nothing in these Terms affects your statutory consumer rights under applicable EU law.

We may revise these Terms at any time. For material changes, we will provide at least 14 days' notice via email and an in-app notification before the changes take effect. Minor, non-material changes (such as typo corrections or clarifications that do not affect your rights) may be made without notice.

Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of any change constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Service and may close your account before the effective date.
